Board Vacancy
Dear SMCSD Community,
The Sausalito Marin City School District Board of Trustees is seeking a qualified and committed member to fill a current vacancy on the Board.
This is a meaningful opportunity to serve our students, staff, and families while helping guide the direction of our district. We are looking for individuals who are thoughtful, collaborative, and committed to student success.
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must:
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be a registered voter
• Reside within district boundaries
• Not legally disqualified from holding civil office

Expectations of Board Members:
Board members are expected to:
• Attend regular and special Board meetings
• Participate in required trainings
• Review materials and make informed decisions in the best interest of all students
• Uphold transparency, ethics, and accountability in public service

Application Timeline:
• Application Deadline: May 6, 2026
• Application Review: May 2026
• Interviews: Conducted during a public Board meeting in May and June
• Appointment: Expected by the middle of June 2026. The appointment will become final in 30 days unless a petition is filed with the Marin County Superintendent of Schools requesting an election, in which case a special election will be called to fill a vacancy. After appointment becomes final, the Board member will serve until November, 2026, at which time he or she may run for election to complete the former Board member’s original term, until November 2028.
