• Unification Tree About Unification

The Sausalito Marin City School District is working together with Willow Creek Academy, a public charter school, to combine Willow Creek and the district's Bayside MLK, Jr. Academy into a single, unified school. The goal of the process is to create a world-class school with top-tier academics that serves all students within the district's enrollment boundaries and overcomes the educational challenges in our community.

Current Status of the Unification Process

    October 21, 2020
A joint committee consisting of the boards of the Sausalito Marin City School District and Willow Creek Academy is working on an implementation plan for opening a unified school in fall of 2021. At its meeting on October 7, the joint committee built consensus that there would be one unified school on two campuses that is not a charter and that has an advisory board with non-voting members that will sit with the elected trustees. The configuration of the campuses would be K-5 in Sausalito and TK/6-8 in Marin City. At the committee meeting on October 21, the joint committee built consensus around a projected staffing model, pending a more detailed budget analysis. A final unification plan is expected to be approved by both boards in December 2020 and rolled out to the community in January 2021.

    Current Timetable

The current projected date for the opening of the unified school is August 2021 for the 2021-22 school year. More upcoming steps in the unification process may be found on the Timeline page.
