• Unification Tree About Unification

The Sausalito Marin City School District is working together with Willow Creek Academy, a public charter school, to combine Willow Creek and the district's Bayside MLK, Jr. Academy into a single, unified school. The goal of the process is to create a world-class school with top-tier academics that serves all students within the district's enrollment boundaries and overcomes the educational challenges in our community.

Current Status of the Unification Process

    November 30, 2020
A joint committee consisting of the boards of the Sausalito Marin City School District and Willow Creek Academy is working on an implementation plan for opening a unified school in fall of 2021. The draft that is being developed calls for one school with two campuses: K-5 in Sausalito and TK/6-8 in Marin City. At the joint meeting on November 9, the committee built consensus on a budget for the unified school, an approach for bargaining with the unions representing SMCSD teachers and classified staff about the representation of WCA employees, and the details for a joint resolution about the final unification process to be passed by both boards. Design teams comprised of teachers and administrators from both schools will finalize the remaining details. Once this process is complete, both boards will enter into a memorandum of understanding that will govern the final process.

    Current Timetable

The current projected date for the opening of the unified school is August 2021 for the 2021-22 school year. More upcoming steps in the unification process may be found on the Timeline page.
